Finally, the day has come, she circled the day with her red pen on her calendar. It was your birthday. She woke up extra early feeling all hyped up. She had plans. She made plans. She couldn't stop looking at her watch every now and then, keeping things within the schedule. It was unfortunate that she had to use her two feet to travel. It was even more unfortunate when it rained that day. She didn't care, it was okay, it's just rain. No big deal.
The cake shop was approximately 10 minutes away if she were to travel on foot. No second thoughts, she moved ahead. As she walked, she could feel water slowly seeping into her shoes and then penetrating her socks as beads of rain rolled down her face while she fought her way through the rain.
After 5 minutes of the journey to the cake shop, she was drenched in rain. Squinting her eyes, she sees the cake shop shortly. She chose the most beautiful looking cake for you. She was happy, she imagined the smile on your face and she smiled to herself. She hugged the box tightly as she lifted it away from the counter. She turned back, she sighed. Damn, the rain was falling so dramatically but she quickly waved her hands out to the road, to flag down a cab. Guess her day wasn't that aweful afterall, she hitched a ride and got back to her place.
Finally, stepping into home. She called you up. She did not mention about the whole journey through hell, but she only told you that she's gotten you a cake and she can't wait for you to see it. You said thank you, but, you said the word but. You said that you didn't know about the cake, you said you had plans, you said you couldn't make it, you said sorry. Sorry was unheard. Sorry can't rewind the process. Sorry can't suck the rain water out from her clothes and her shoes. Sorry, can't be the word that stops the rush of blood flowing to her head. Sorry was a dead silence.
You said you'd just come by and perhaps hear a song but then again, you said the word but. You said your friends were waiting, you said you don't think you'd have enough time. You said a whole lot of excuses. All she could do was to accept those excuses that you just made, which she didn't catch any of them at all. She said enjoy yourself, she said she loves you, she hung up.
She didn't know what to do or say she just stood by the telephone for a few moments. Then she decided to keep it in the refrigerator.
She thought it was okay, there's still tomorrow, though what she really wanted to do was to throw the cake away. She called you up again, she said, it's okay remember to eat it tomorrow when she's away for the day. Unfortunately, the next day, the cake was still left untouched. She asked and you said you forgot, you said you've seen it but you were too tired to do anything to it.
She gave up, she finally threw it away. She was disappointed and angered. She forgave, but she did not forget. She left that night. You didn't understand why she had to be such a sensitive person to not understand you. It was just a cake, no big deal. You blame her for being unreasonable, you said that she was trying to be in your way. You said a whole lot of things to her before she left as if you haven't done all the damage to her already. She loves you, but she's just too tired to keep up with you and your routine. She didn't wanna stuck around you to suck your " precious time " away.
Till today, you don't know what she would do or go through to make you happy.
No big deal right?
Just a cake.
